Determine Your Fan CFM Requirement

When it comes to investing in dust collection equipment, one of the most difficult and confusing aspects is deciding on the appropriate size collector.

Fan CFM Requirement is Key

In order to do an efficient job, your industrial dust collector needs to be:

  • Large enough to handle all the air required to carry smoke, fumes or dust away from your process machinery and out of your general work area.
  • The perfect size to overcome static pressure loss.
  • Small enough to do the job well without wasting unnecessary energy or adding unnecessary costs (you don’t want to be replacing filters more often than you have to!).

Here at Imperial Systems, we’ve developed a helpful calculator tool to assist you in this process. Determining the perfect size collector has never been easier!

To get access to this calculator, simply fill out the form below.

This customized Imperial Systems’ Airflow Calculator is designed to give you the volume of air in a given enclosure and calculate it into CFM with a given number of air changes per hour. When calculating the number of air changes per hour, consider the application and the amount of smoke, fume or particulate to be removed. A typical ambient weld smoke system should be anywhere from 8 to 12 ACH depending on the amount of welding throughout the shift. It is always a good idea to contact a factory direct Imperial Systems Sales engineer to help you size your collector.

Other applications for this calculator include sand blasting, shot blasting, grinding, torch cutting, arc gouging, thermal spray, plasma spray, detonation spraying, wire arc spraying, HVOF high velocity oxy-fuel coating spraying, warm spraying, cold spraying, soldering, robotic welding, powder coating, plasma cutting, sanding.
